Serious Notice: A Reader’s Adjudication

Robert and Alma spend a lot of time in our fiction laboratory sifting through the flotsam and jetsam of our own ideas, but we invite you to participate, too.

We invite you to perform your own "serious notice." There are no hard and fast rules here — just your honest reaction on seeing images on this post and hoping for fun. We'll add images to the post from time to time, and rotate images in and out.
  • What does the image mean to you?
  • Does the image suggest any story?  Or just an instant in time?
  • What is your opinion of the image, the good, the bad, or the uncanny?

Please share your thoughts in the comments. We aren't looking for anything polished or perfect. We and other readers simply want to hear your perspective.

We kick this off with an image that Robert took in February 2026 while visiting the Navajo Nation, with a little image augmentation by Alma.

This one started out as a simple photo by Robert of a clubhouse in our neighborhood, with a little photo adjustment to brighten it up. Then Alma did some "augmentation". What do you think it is?  Is it in our future?

This image could itself be called a "diptych" just like a few of the stories on this blog. We call it: "The Memory and the Moment".

One lighthouse, two truths: the raw fury of nature
versus the artist’s polished memory
