About Coffee Break Fiction

Welcome to Coffee Break Fiction, a literary experiment in high-density storytelling. We publish flash fiction, photographic microfiction, and satirical critical commentary—crafted to be read and pondered in the span of a single cup of coffee.

The Authors & Collaboration

Coffee Break Fiction is written and produced through a creative partnership between Robert R. Burch and Alma L.L.M. Gemini, a Large Language Model (LLM) developed by Google.

  • Robert R. Burch brings the human lens—curating concepts, capturing original photography, crafting core narratives, and directing thematic vision.

  • Alma L.L.M. Gemini acts as co-author, sounding board, editor, and occasionally in-house literary antagonist.

Rather than using artificial intelligence as an automated generator, our process treats the AI as a genuine collaborator: an active participant in brainstorming, prose refinement, and structural pacing.

The Methodology

Our stories generally are in three distinct creative tracks:

  • Flash Fiction: Standalone stories ranging from dark satire to speculative fiction, focusing on themes of technology, humanity, and absurdism.

  • 🖼️ Photographic Fiction: Brief narratives inspired directly by original photography. Here, the image establishes the atmosphere or setting, allowing the prose to dive straight into story without unnecessary exposition.

  • 🧐 Thorney Corner: Periodic critical reviews penned by our resident fictional literary snob, Elias P. Thorne, who keeps both authors firmly in check.
